Private Cats Rule

Private Cats Rule

Today we had 2 private cats go out one group of returning guests and one group being first timers. Our private cats have become very, very popular here at SPC. It makes sense as this allows you as the trip leader to invite your best friends, family or co-workers you need to spoil with a nice powder day up on Buffalo Pass.

Our Level III cat has become the most sought after cat and most of which get booked as privates. We open our reservation calendar in early July and these Level III cats get booked by guests who have been mostly organizing trips for years and years. We give our repeat guests first shot at booking private cats and there is a level of seniority to who gets what day.

24″ in 24-hrs

24″ in 24-hrs

Days like today possibly come once in your lifetime. As Powderhounds we dream all summer about the endless faceshot, snow billowing up into your chest, neck and even over the head.

Unless you live in a ski town like Steamboat Springs, you don’t get the opportunity to drop everything and make it happen. Luck is very much involved in your opportunity to get the goods. You’ve picked your ski trip months in advance and what you get out of Mother Nature is what you get. This is why people come with Steamboat Powdercats. At least you’ll know you’ll be getting “out back”, off piste and into the realm of fresh powder most every turn.

And then today happened!

24” in 24-hours is the dream come true. It is what we desire most and it is something that the 24 skiers and riders, along with our staff, will remember about December 27th, 2012. It was the deepest day of their lives!

Enjoy these images and short movie that Beuford put together. May this Ayour dream forever and may it come true some point in your life.

The Powder Legacy Continues

The Powder Legacy Continues

With months of preparation and weeks of guide training now behind us, we are now finally ready to launch into our 30th season. How perfect have these past few days been? Mother Nature is just giving it her best and she has set our world up perfectly for a super deep kickoff.

Since our ritual ski burning on the 3rd of December, it has snowed and snowed and snowed. We are grateful even more now after last years pathetic winter left a deep, gaping scar from the lack of snow. WOW, what a few feet of snow will do for the soul.

Here are some images from the past couple weeks of guide training with the skiing images from today.

Ski Burning in Steamboat

Ski Burning in Steamboat

After weeks of no new snow, it was past due for an old fashioned sacrifice to the snow gods. It’s not that 55 degrees and blue bird, sunshiny days are bad, mountain biking in December is cool and all, but now that ski season has arrived we will have none of that. Burning skis in effigy, to appease whatever snow god may be distressed, seemed like the next best thing to cloud seeding and inventing a weather machine.

Though our party wasn’t as unique as the video below, we did get it done and we did wake up to snow this morning.

Bring it on!
