Bonus powder- 14″ in last 72 hrs

Bonus powder- 14″ in last 72 hrs

When we plan for trips in late March we all know that conditions can be variable to say the least. A week ago, we hadn’t received snow in a while and temps were in the 40’s up top turning the snowpack into one interesting venue. We always find snow and had to poke and prod around the terrain, finding the goods on easterly aspects.

Today, winter is back and our fears of a March thaw have been forgotten. We’ve received another 5″ this morning on the stake and 14″ in the past 3 days. This storm system couldn’t have come at a better time and will certainly set us up for some storm chasing this coming week.

Thanks again to all who stick to it, plan March cat ski adventures and get rewarded with light, dry, blower type snow. Looks like the next couple days will continue to produce and should stay cold. Bring it!

Ticket to Shred

Ticket to Shred

Our friends from Never Summer took 2 of our cats today for their Ticket to Shred event. Several winners (purchase a board and get name placed in a hat) along with a friend came and rallied along with some studly Never Summer employees.

This was our first Ticket to Shred event and we plan on having more of these in the future. The Ticket to Shred is just one reason why Never Summer is the best snowboard company in the industry. Their boards rip if you didn’t know and we’ve been styling them all season.

We had another crew out as well and all of us loved the snow from yesterday and the sweet visibility in the morning. Fortunately, it started snowing around noon and it didn’t stop!

Living in the moment

Living in the moment

As powder skiers and riders, we have to live for today. It’s good to plan for tomorrow and see what the weather is looking like and to remember the deep days of yesterday, but today is really what matters. Every turn, every line, every moment right now, immediately counts more than anything.

It was a pleasure guiding our crews today, smiling and laughing together, watching everyone rip up the freshies and improve on our powder skills throughout the day. It was magic to see the sun stay hidden behind the clouds so we could access our southern aspects before the got cooked, which the did. It was heaven to ski the sunshine and blue skies on fields of fresh powder.

24″ in 24-hours

24″ in 24-hours

So it happened again. Another massive wave of weather came down from the heavens and absolutely destroyed us.

With 15″ there when we arrived at the cabin, the storm kept hammering and ended up with 23″ at the cabin when the lunch lady left. WOW!

So goes March. One day it’s hot and boot depth and the next it’s nearly 2 feet. This snow came in hot as well so we were skiing Whistlerboat style where it didn’t ski super deep. Fortunately, the storm got cold and laid down some nice fluff on top so it was an interesting blend to say the least.

We did get a major boost in base with this storm. Just yesterday we were teetering at 70″ and now a nice 83″ base.

What an adventure today.
