Lets face it. We haven’t had snow in weeks. Legitimate snow that is. Since our last big snow event, the skiing has been great. It always is at SPC. Over the passed few days however, its been a bit challenging for us to find that pow.
FORTUNATELY we have some of the most experienced ski guides on the planet and they have the ninja-like ability ability to STILL find secrete powder stashes only the keebler elves know about.
So that was our day today. Sniffing the air, listening for solitude and harnessing the inner force to direct us to the goods. We came, we searched and we found powdery pow pow. Our photos from today prove that there is still snow up there.
Although there is still pow to ski, we found ourselves spending a good part of our day looking above to the heavens praying that a magical snow event comes by and nukes us with centillions of stellar dendrites!

The weather shifted today. While the Northeast is getting hammered with feet of snow, we are in full on spring mode with 40+ degree temps at elevation. To say the least, t-shirt type skiing on creamy snow is fun but after decades of being in this business and being accustomed to powder, especially in January, this is getting hard to believe.
After a thin snowpack already (we have a 47″ base at our cabin), now these temperatures, we are in need of a massive bonfire or sacrifice of some sort to kick start winter and fuel Mother Nature with more of Old Man Winter.
Conditions with the heat today have evolved as you would assume. More like late March snow…creamy and warm. Check out the images Ben took from the trip and you’ll see exactly the type of snow we got everyone on.

Oh, did we just say that? Those of you who follow this blog know that typically, it’s a double digit powder day that get’s us all hot and heavy, not 3-inches…please! Since we launched into this New Year, 2015 has been a bit dry, well dare we say very dry. So when 3-inches of snow shows up we all high five, rejoice and do a little jig.
Today’s dance was just 1 cat, our Level III crew. It was a photographers dream day with big blue skies cropping snow encrusted trees and fields of fresh. Our ripping crew, all of which were returning from yesterday, love it. And this snow was an extra bonus.
Thank you all for coming back and playing with us. We’ll take the 3″ and some wind this time. Next time, we can only hope for more.

This morning it was foggy and gloomy. As the sun came out however, the darkness began to melt away. Slowly but surely, the sun came through in streaks of light. By lunchtime, it was back to a bluebird day!
We had some returning guests from yesterday. They couldn’t do just ONE day at Steamboat Powdercats. For our new guests today, they were feeling the same way.

Today was our first 3 cat day of the entire season! And it was perhaps the best 3 cat day to start off with too!
Every year we donate 3 cats to our buddies at Steamboat STARS. Filled with wounded warriors, adaptive skiers and volunteer shredders, the crew today went after the powder like it was no tomorrow. Say more? No need to. Check out the video we made below!
