And just like that, 2016 is complete. We blast out of this year with good friends, sunny skies and another epic experience in the powder on Buffalo Pass.
Lots to be thankful for as we close the chapter on 2016. Raise a glass tonight for all the powderhounds out there who fill your life and complete your memories. More than the powder, the people are what keep us all going. Hug your friends, your family and enjoy your night.

Following our epic day of winter yesterday, the winds died down and the skies parted into a magnificent sea of blue. This quick blast of a snow storm brought us nearly 10 inches of snow refreshing our terrain. We had two cats filled with high energy powder slayers and we jumped, we slashed and we laughed our asses off the whole way down the hill.
Shots by Ben today can be seen here!

Holy Mother of Nature, you certainly destroyed us today. Buffalo Pass hasn’t seen a day like this all season We’ve had lots of snowy days here recently, in fact we are now over 135-inches of total snowfall for the month, but today was crazy. It started off with nuclear snow this morning then the relentless wind arrived making navigating around absurd. Fortunately, we train for these situations and prep our snowcat roads with bamboo so that we can connect the boo and get back to the top to do it all over again.

Standing at the top of Success, you click into your bindings and take a breath. Patiently you wait for your lead guide to give you the green light. What seems like forever, you finally get the go and you’re off. A few turns into your line you pick up speed and feel the chilly air flap against your jacket. You blast through the final few pine trees and it opens to a spectacular untouched run with a view of the Yampa Valley behind it. You hear the muffling echos of the people behind you hootin and hollering. Faster faster! By this point, nothing else matters in the world other than the sensation of powder slashing away from your skis. As you come to the bottom, you shut down your speed in one glorious slash and leave a cloud of powder behind you to slowly settle. With a ear to ear grin across your face, you’re plesantly reminded that this is why you came to Steamboat Powdercats. To free your mind and live in that eternal moment of powder glory. This is what its all about.
