A little springtime update is necessary now that Buffalo Pass has officially topped a Colorado record for snow accumulation, making it truly the deepest snowpack in Colorado. That’s right, the Tower Site, which measures remote snowpack levels for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, recently hit a level never recorded in the history of record keeping here in Colorado.

Read more about this historical snow amount here in the article from the Steamboat Pilot and Today, the Denver Post and in the Coyote Gulch.

We all knew that Buffalo Pass was “one of the deepest snowpacks in the entire state” as advertised and promoted by Steamboat Powdercats, among others. But this new historical snowpack level will bring us an even greater ability to convince you and your buddies to ski and ride in Colorado’s deepest snowpack. Fun, fun!

To celebrate, a few of us went up to Buff and rallied around on sleds into our expert terrain and nailed lines into Diamond Face, Cat Scratch and Bonsai. The snow was mid-March like, a bit heavy but still capable of throwing in a face shot or two. We went to the cabin and there was nearly 150″ on the snowstake. The cabin was buried, you could drive a sled up and over it if you wanted to. We did dinner in the cabin and some spent the night. Good fun!

We hope to get one more day up there in the terrain skiing and snowboarding before the melt kicks in and the rafts and kayaks come out for good.
