First snow in Steamboat

Our first winter storm blew into the Valley during the morning of October 7th, 2011 dropping the first layer of what should prove to be another fantastic powder season for us.  The Steamboat Ski Area’s first snow report of the season was of course on the 8th and they reported 1.5 inches at the Gondola and 3 inches at the summit of Mt. Werner.

As always, we host our annual Powder Prediction Contest (view rules here).  The promotional competition this season saw 170 folks send in their predictions and of those 12 picked the correct date.  No one picked 1.5 inches but the was lucky winner who picked 1.25 inches, thus a meager .25 inches away from the actual amount.  It was fitting that this winner is a long time returning guest who is a master at weather forecasting and has always been really close.  This season he was the master of the prediction and wins a free seat with us this season.  He’s already scheduled for 3 day stint with us so maybe he’ll just have to come one more.

Thanks to all that played our Powder Prediction Contest and we’ll be hitting you all back again here soon with images of our new snowcat we’ve just mounted with a brand new cabin cruiser.  Until then, keep the snow falling.
