First snow of the season October 20th – 1/4 inch

IMG_5201It happened, our first snow of the season has come and gone.  On Tuesday, October 20th, we woke up to a mere dusting, a deep 1/4 inch on the summit of Storm Peak.  Snowline was around 10,000 feet so no snow at Thunderhead but the summit was brushed with a whitewash of fresh powder.

So concludes our annual Powder Prediction Contest. We had over 150 predictors this season.  We had 7 predictors pick the October 20th date but one lucky winner picked the 1/4 inch that fell.  Good job Cody Mertens you have won yourself a free day with Steamboat Powdercats for this season.

We’ve been keeping track of Steamboat’s first snow ever since the 04/06 season, we started hosting this contest during the 06/07 season and this year was the latest we ever have received our first snow of the season on Mt. Werner.

Thanks for playing gang.  We applaud the effort and hope that it only continues to snow, snow, snow.
