Luke Howard – Backcountry Snowcat Ski Guide

Luke started working with us at Steamboat Powdercats during the 23/24 season.

Luke was born and raised in the White Mountains of Northern New Hampshire. Luckily for him, ski lessons from his father started at the early age of two, and his shredding skills were honed on the icy slopes of New England until finally moving to Colorado for the first time in 2011.

A quest for knowledge and love brought Luke back to New England to pursue a Dual Major in Political Science and Sustainability with a Business Minor at the University of New Hampshire, and meet the most incredible woman who shares his love and enthusiasm for all things outside, encourages his powder addiction, and eats too much cheese with him. The woman of his dreams wisely guided them back to the Promised Land of POW in 2021, and Luke and his now wife, Marisa, began the dream-state that is life in the Yampa Valley.

Luke’s lifelong goal of making skiing a job was finally achieved when he was hired for the position of Guide in the 23/24 season, and he is looking forward to many years of sliding on snow and whooping through the trees on Buffalo Pass with the amazing guests and guide team at Steamboat Powdercats.

When he isn’t being the best skier on the mountain, Luke enjoys mountain biking at a decidedly intermediate level, playing on the Yampa River, getting his fingers in the dirt of his garden, long walks on the beach, and dreaming of POW turns.

In the spring of 2025, Luke and Marissa celebrated the birth of their beautiful baby girl, Lucy!
