Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe appropriate actions to take if they or a party member is caught in an avalanche.
- Identify and effectively use equipment vital for avalanche rescue.
- Set up and practice a realistic avalanche rescue scenario.
- Improve response skills and efficiency through instructor and peer feedback.
- Develop a personalized plan for ongoing practice and skill refinement.
All participants will receive an AIARE rescue card upon successful completion. This course serves as a prerequisite for those interested in enrolling in AIARE Level II and Pro 1 courses. AIARE strongly recommends that all backcountry travelers refresh their avalanche rescue skills and receive a rescue card every other year.
Prerequisites: To enroll in this course, you must be proficient in traveling on snow and bring the appropriate equipment, including:
- Touring skis, splitboard, boots, bindings, and poles
- A personal shovel, probe, and beacon
