Today marks a special day for us at Steamboat Powdercats as we have now embarked on a new element in our operations.  For the past 35 years we have guided tens of thousands of guests via our snowcats but today, we ditched the cat at the trailhead.

Due to the low snowfall thus far this season, we haven’t been able to build out snowcat roads into our expert terrain (yet).  This has forced us to think outside the box and reinvent ourselves.  We’ve guided non-motorized tours in Argentina before but never on Buffalo Pass, until today.

With 4 guests and our 2 guides, we took a walk into Bitch Creek and skied and hike out of Mushroom Fields and Mellow Gully. We couldn’t have asked for a better group.  Lou and his family were mostly experienced AT skiers but also included a first timer who nailed it. It was such a pleasure to rally with this group.

We have another trip out tomorrow with Bob who went with us to Argentina.

Read about pricing and what’s included in our backcountry ski tours here.

We hope to book more of these trips in the near future. You’ll see on our calendar that these trips are now available throughout the season.

Along with this trip, today we finished out a 3 day trip with our Australian family who comes every season as well as launching day one or our avalanche course.

Fun times.
